Annual Letter to Clients: 2019

As 2018 comes to an end, we would like to take this time to thank you for being a client. We appreciate and value the support and trust you have shown to us.

We launched Able Wealth Management as a fee-only Registered Investment Advisor firm this past September. We did so with the intention of providing a higher level of financial planning and wealth management services to our clients while reducing fees and expenses traditionally passed on to clients.

As 2018 gives way to 2019, we would be remiss not to discuss the changes in the market over the days and weeks leading up to the end of this year. As a firm, we do not try to make predictions on the economy nor attempt to time the markets. However, as trusted advisors to you — our client — we do continuously monitor and educate ourselves on the current landscape.

The nearly decade-long bull market has entered a new phase. As economic growth has decelerated, we see an increase in downside risk through a tightening of monetary policy, the weakening global growth, and the continuation of trade tensions.

This recent volatility in the market should not be unexpected given these conditions and will likely persist — however, the risk of a recession remains low. Dramatic losses to your portfolio can feel paralyzing, but it's essential to stay the course amid ongoing market volatility. Staying invested and disciplined are more critical than ever.

As you think about your goals for the coming year, it's essential to stay focused on your reasons for investing. It is easy to get distracted by the news cycle, as the daily markets move. Having a well-formulated investment strategy that you understand is one way to tune out the noise and stay focused on the long-term — our investment strategies built around client specific objectives. Longterm investing should not be dictated by sudden market changes (whether good or bad) but rather by any changes in the goals tied to these investments.

We will be reaching out to each client in the first part of 2019. We want to set up review meetings and implement an ongoing servicing calendar throughout the year. We also encourage you to contact us when there are any changes to your personal or financial situation. We will always make ourselves available to meet with clients in-person, through video conferencing, or over the phone.

Wishing you a happy and healthy new year,
Seth Hodes & Joel Kaplowitz
